Proposed Strategic Plan Development Timeline.pdf
Background: At its July 29, 2021 meeting, the Milwaukee Board of School Directors took action to immediately begin the development process of a district strategic plan by adopting Resolution 2122R-008 by Director Gokalgandhi (see attachment).

The Board's action directed that the Chair of the Board's Committee on Strategic Planning and Budget, in collaboration with the Administration, the Office of Board Governance, and the Office of Accountability and Efficiency immediately begin the development process of the next MPS strategic plan. Therefore, it is suggested that the MPS Internal Strategic Plan Team be created, consisting of the following:

Committee on Strategic Planning & Budget Chair

MPS Board member

Board Clerk/Chief Officer, Office of Board Governance

Senior Director/Office of Accountability and Efficiency

Superintendent

Department of Research, Assessment, and Data

The Internal Strategic Plan Team will meet regularly and be responsible for guiding the development of the new MPS Strategic Plan, form workgroups to create the new plan, carry out stakeholder and community input opportunities, and implement the timeline.

A proposed timeline consistent with the Board's action is included with this item. The Board may want to consider altering the timeline to allow for additional community/stakeholder opportunities and plan development. Both are integral to developing a strategic plan that accurately reflects an organization's vision for the future and identify its goals and objectives.
Fiscal Impact Statement: This item does not authorize expenditures.
Implementation and Assessment Plan Upon approval by the Board, the Administration will begin working with the Strategic Planning and Budget Chair in collaboration with the Offices of Board Governance and Accountability and Efficiency to begin the process of developing the next MPS strategic plan.
Recommendation: The Administration recommends that the Board determine how it wishes to proceed relative to a timeline for strategic plan development.
