Background:
|
This is the first quarterly update on the development and implementation of the new personal finance course offered to students. At its regular meeting in May, 2021 the Board approved the proposed revisions to administrative policy 7.37, requiring all high school students to take a one-semester personal finance course to prepare them to be college- and career-ready. The graduation requirement will begin at three schools - Riverside University High School, Alexander Hamilton High School, and Green Tree Preparatory Academy - starting with the Class of 2026, with additional schools to be added in subsequent semesters/years. This report will provide information on the following: • goals of the financial literacy course implementation; • the current state of financial literacy in MPS; • progress made on the implementation; • the membership of the financial literacy advisory council, including key demographics of member organizations' leadership; • the major topics covered in the financial literacy course, the curriculum standards used, and a timeline indicating when each topic is taught; • a timeline for scaling the implementation to all high schools; and • immediate next steps in the implementation process. |
